Cuticle Detective Inaba - Great comedy. Laughed more than I expected.
Attack on Titan - Anime of the year.
The Devil is a Part Timer! - Absolutely loved this. Became one of my favorite comedies.
Mushibugyo - It a was decent fun show. I was entertained throughout.
DD Fist of the North Star - Pretty funny since I'm familiar with the main franchise.
Devil Survivor 2 - This was alright, for a video game adaptation.
Yondemasuyo, Azazel-san. Z - A very funny hidden gem.
Gargantia on the Verduous Planet - Liked the characters and the story.
Blood Lad - Because Staz and Bell.
Silver Spoon - Sometimes funny, sometimes emotional, always great.
Danganronpa - A good mystery. I found those to be rare nowadays.
Hajime no Ippo: Rising - One of my all-time favorite shows. Fights were incredible.
Kuroko's Basketball 2 - Those games are entertaining as hell.
Kill la Kill - Great action and soundtrack.
Beyond the Boundary - Great action and soundtrack.
Magi: The Kingdom of Magic - It got good in the end.
Pocket Monsters: The Origin - My childhood.
The only anime I watched but didn't vote for were Maoyuu and Railgun (<Index). Dat boredom almost killed me.
Pardon my lazyness
None worth mentioning for me
Date A Live- i mean, come on...fall in love to save the world
Attack on Titan - animation is stunning
Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince - nice seeing the team dynamic with team rabbits, fights were cool too
Gatchaman Crowds - GATCHA, GATCHA, GATCHA also the soundtrack is bad ass
High School D×D New - fan service aside, i enjoyed the plot of this
Arpeggio of Blue Steel -Ars Nova- Animation looked awesome, as did the fights
Kill la Kill - there is an endless number of reasons why i'm voting for this lol
Log Horizon - The story was awesome, the characters were awesome..it was all just awesome
Strike The Blood - Bite my neck, suck my blood, save the world!
Since I haven't seen everything available, my choices are obviously skewed. Still I came up with:
DokiDoki! Precure - Relentlessly enthusiastic, endearingly cute, witty at times and has a subtle edge that leans towards a darker humor. It's also a television commercial for PreCure swag, but so what.
GJ-bu (GJ Club) - It's the anime equivalent of a Nerf ball. It's soft, harmless and fun if you're in the right mood.
Kotoura-san - Unforgettable first episode. From there on out it's really just an average to slightly above average moe rom-com that has an unsatisfying ending. Has some genuine lough out loud moments that make it worthwhile.
Winter 2013 was kinda weak.
Aiura - The manga was better (as usual) but still funny enough to mention.
Hataraku Maou-sama! - Anime of the season which let's be honest wasn't that difficult to achieve given the choices. Still, it really is quite good.
Spring 2013 was mostly a disappointment for me. I didn't like AoT at all, so I only watched a couple comedies.
Kimi No Iru Machi - Manga is glaringly better than the anime, but if you're a fan of Kouji Seo you know you have to watch.
Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku - Rapid fire gags that are consistently funny.
Love Lab - Rabu Rabo is fucking awesome. I don't have to explain why! >:O
No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular - WataMote earned every shred of hype and praise given it. It's easy to love and hate at the same time, and never fails to provoke emotion. Serious contender for anime of the year but edged out by a better show.
Servant × Service - An appreciated attempt to move this type of humor out of the classroom that mostly succeeds in bringing the laughs.
Summer was daijoubu.
Arpeggio of Blue Steel -Ars Nova - My personal surprise hit. Hugely entertaining after a weak beginning. I loved this show.
Gingitsune - Sweet slice of life that leaves you feeling refreshed.
Golden Time - Entertaining drama with enough humor to keep it from stifling the audience.
Kill la Kill - What can I say? It's undeniably the anime of the year.
Non Non Biyori - Probably the best slice of life anime I've ever seen. It got everything right from beginning to end.
White Album 2 - My personal anime of the year and easily in my top 10 all time greatest anime ever made. I adored every second of this anime, and it is an anime that demands at least one more viewing if not more. I could gush about this show all day.
Yowamushi Pedal - Abs! Abs! Abs! Come on, anyone who couldn't find something to like in this anime has no soul. It's great.
Fall was sugoi.
Cuticle Detective Inaba
This show wasn't what I expected, but it was so funny and random I loved it!
One of my favourite anime of all time. I was actually almost shedding tears.
Zettai Karen Children: THE UNLIMITED
Just thought it was a pretty decent show. Had a pretty good plot and decent action scenes.-
I didn't think you could make a 5 minute show so random, funny and entertaining. I had a great time watching this.
Attack on Titan
It wasn't my favourite show of all time, but overall it was pretty decent. Animation was absolutely AMAZING, though.
I thought it was pretty average at first, but it turned out to be really good after the second half. I love the mecha designs.
L-Elf. That was the only really this show was good (and the mecha designs) but it was still pretty entertaining.
Suisei no Gargantia
Because Chamber is awesome. And it has an interesting story.
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would've. It was just a really laid-back show most of the time.
Because GATCHAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN. And because Hajime is awesome.
Sunday Without God
I really liked the concept and the art for this show.
This was such a funny and cute show! Some of the things those girls do are ridiculous...but hey, that's why it was so good.
Servant x Service
It was a surprisingly funny show. The characters are all so loveable. I hope it gets a second season.
A great story and interesting characters. Probably one of my favourites from the year.
Same reason as the first one. This is such a funny show.
Nagi no Asukara
Wow...just wow. All aboard the feels train. I didn't expect this to be so good. Not to mention the animation is absolutely STUNNING.
This was such a crazy and funny show. But I loved every bit of it.
Kuroko no Basuke 2
I don't understand how I've read the manga and the games can still be so tense every though I know what's going to happen...
It separated itself from SAO pretty quickly. Not to mention it was MILES better than SAO. It had an interesting plot and loveable characters. I'm so happy it's getting a second season in October (though I don't know if I can wait 6 months...)
The protagonist just seemed different from those in most other sports anime. Plus it has an interesting plot.
Kill La Kill
The first episode left me a little shocked, but I shouldn't have expected any less from the creators of Gurren Lagann. I really loved the bond between Ryuko and Senketsu. And Mako is just adorable sometimes.
Diamond no Ace
The protagonist is a little...thick-headed, but he was funny to watch. It's really entertaining, too.
Gundam Build Fighters
This show just teaches you that you should NEVER judge a book by its cover. I didn't think that an anime such a ridiculous premise would be so god-damn good (and this is coming from a pretty big Gundam fan here). I was so depressed after it finished I had to go and re-watch another Gundam show XD.
'I'm the unmotivated protagonist of my own story.'
No particular order. Left long titles purple or blue for visibility.
Edit: Now featuring explanations!! (required for the votes to count..)
1 Zettai Karen Children: THE UNLIMITED
The only decent action anime of its season
2 DokiDoki! Precure
Pretty Cure meets tragedy. A surprisingly good season of the show.
Short show comedy about manga production. Small time investment and great fun
4 Minami-ke Tadaima
Feel.'s re-imagining of Minami-ke is cute and fun. Too bad the sales doomed the rest to OVAs
One of the best of the most recent examples of SHAFT's style refined.
6 Tamako Market
Our season's Kyoto Anime slice of life
7 Yama No Susume
Amazing and backgrounds. A short show with nice slice of life elements with a focus on mountain climbing.
8 Chihayafuru 2
A short enjoyable slice of life
2 Haitai Nanafa 2
This is one of those hidden gems of a comedy that I enjoyed.
3 Jewelpet Happiness
Jewelpets are cute?
4 Kuromajo-san ga Toru!!
The black witch Gyubid's tale of messing with an elementary school girl's normal life continues in these short but fun episodes.
5 Miyakawa-ke no Kuufuku
A girl and her older sister in the Lucky Star universe get to live the life of Otaku poverty and short episodes. Rather fun watch.
6 To Aru Kagaku no Railgun S
J.C. Staff's emotional recreation of the sisters and following arc from Misaka Mikoto's point of view, featuring great visuals and and impressive OST.
7 Space Battleship Yamato 2199
A revival done incredibly right. There is nothing short of greatness here.
A fun slice of life featuring two dykes and their frugal friend who spend their time after school randomly searching the internet.
The PSP game's style is well-portrayed. The story isn't as well portrayed, but is passable.
2 Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA.ILLYA
A rather fun take on the magical girl genre.
3 Gatchaman Crowds
Toss that super hero nonsense out of the window.
4 Daybreak Illusion
It looks very nice. A picture-esque representation of fantasy.
5 Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku
Chronicles of the Going Home Club is an enjoyable slice of life comedy that has no trouble breaking the fourth wall.
6 Kin-iro Mosaic
Another fun slice of life featuring two Japanese voice actors that pretend that they're from England. The engrish bits are a hoot.
7 No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular
Watamote is relatable and at the same time cringe-worthy. 10 out of 10.
8 Tamayura ~More Aggressive~
Every season of Tamayura is just beautiful to watch. That's just all there is to it. It's a wonderful experience.
1 Aikatsu! 2nd Series
Aikatsu is top!
2 Kuroko No Basuke 2
The extreme basketball nonsense..
The wacky style and wacky storyline with interesting animation certainly make it one for the books.
4 Miss Monochrome
In as long as it takes to watch an episode of something else, you can enjoy the entire story of Miss Monochrome. Everything's well paced and it can be downright hilarious.
5 Non Non Biyori
Slice of Life has never been so peaceful. If I had to choose my ideal childhood, it'd be something as nice and simple as Non Non Biyori.
6 Teekyu Third season
Teekyu episodes are fast and hilarious. The rapid-fire punch lines need to processed so quickly that you'll be laughing at them again and again, sometimes even forgetting that the joke was ever told. Always a fun show.
7 Yowamushi Pedal
If anyone told me a cycling anime would be watchable, I'd laugh. Now I can't =/
8 Yozakura Quartet ~Hana no Uta~
A decent action show featuring characters with unique superpowers. It's a prequel that absolutely eclipses the first season. Since it's a standalone season, watching the first is now only a means of self-torture.
Quick! Stop! Run! Jump! LEAP!(currently marathoning Batman: The Animated Series)
List of nominations from each season.
GJ-bu - My favorite of the winter season, this anime was just fun. Every episode flew by before I knew it. The club's activities, whether whacky or just lazy, made for quite the 'feel good' anime. I'll miss those maid twirls.
Nekomonogatari (Kuro) - The next monogatari installment didn't disappoint. It was nice to see the events before Bakemonogatari and it was able to fit well with Nekomonogatari (Shiro).
Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT - A little more serious and emotional than it's predecessor which I had been waiting for since the end of the first season. Did a nice job of mixing the comedy and the drama.
Sasami-san@Ganbaranai - Shaft continues to entertain me with their unique styles.
Senran Kagura - A rather enjoyable ecchi series with a plot that wasn't too bad itself. I also found the rival characters to be nice contrasts to the main heroines. Along with some decent action, it made for good watch.
Tamako Market - "Everybody loves somebody." A pretty cute anime from KyotoAni. I liked how odd the characters were and the love triangle was pretty interesting as well.
Vividred Operation - Although funny and enjoyable for the wrong reasons, I'll give this one a nomination because I'd like to see it in the contest.
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S - With improved animation and soundtrack, the retelling of the Sister's arc really shows the struggle of Misaka Mikoto bringing even greater depth to an already great character.
Oreimo 2 - Just like Haganai NEXT, it was a more emotional ride than it's predecessor which I rather enjoyed. Kirino becomes much more likable this season as her character matures and as we start making our way down the imouto route.
Yuyushiki - Similar to GJ-bu, it was another fun anime to watch. I really liked the friendship between the girls and it was always a delight to watch Yui's reactions to Yuzuko and Yukari's antics.
My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU - Hachiman was definitely among one of my favorite characters of last year. His daily life interactions were always different and interesting, but his inner monologues as well as his dialogues with Yukino might just be the highlight of the show.
Attack on Titan - A pretty epic show with an interesting setting. Really makes you want to keep watching to find out just how the characters are going to survive in this apocalyptic world or to see just where exactly is this story is going to leading us.
RDG: Red Data Girl - I need to praise P.A. Works stunning visuals once again, however the story itself wasn't up to caliber with some of the other titles they have been producing. Nonetheless it did have it's good points as well such as use of Japanese folklore was somewhat captivating when mixed with it's visuals.
Kakumeiki Valvrave - Interesting setting, nicely animated mecha battles, and some pretty cool adversaries all made for a good watch. (A-drei with that Jun Fukuyama voice really helped it)
The World God Only Knows Megami-hen - My personal favorite of last year. The goddesses arc brings forth Keima's biggest challenge yet as he is placed under even more stress and responsibility than before; the task of reviving the goddesses. Through this endeavor, his ideals of love, perfection, and reality finally undergo the major changes that his past conquest have ultimately been leading him to. His toughest conquest returns to the center stage and brings a twist that even the god himself will not see coming.
Monogatari series Second season
Eccentric Family - P.A. Works does it again. This anime was a captivating ride from start to end. The different visuals mixed well with Japanese folklore setting. The characters, all of them, were all well developed and made for more immersed viewing experience as if you were apart of this family yourself.
Gatchaman Crowds - Not your ordinary superhero story. I liked the aspect of using social networking as a means to make everyday people the heroes. It was interesting to the watch the Gatchaman trying to fight evil vs Rui trying to fight evil with his own methods via social networking. I also loved Hajime's ideals and philosophies that were very righteous and simple on the surface yet profound once they were actually applied.
High School DxD NEW - Massive improvement in plot and 'plot'.
Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku - Another enjoyable slice of life series. The club and their jokes that completely destroy the 4th wall made for one of the few laugh out loud series of last year.
Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA.ILLYA - A fun watch for any one a fan of Type-Moon or just the Fate franchise. Had some really good action as well.
No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular - I laughed, I cringed, Tomoko was a fun character to follow in her endeavor to become popular... even though she's unsuccessful at every turn.
Nagi no Asukara - Beautiful visuals, gripping drama, and an astronomical twist, Nagi no Asukara ends up being more than a story of racial tension between the sea and surface but a beautiful tale of coming of age. Another great anime from P.A. Works
Non Non Biyori - One of, if the not the most relaxing slice of life series I've had the joy of watching. The characters all complemented each other very well, and it's rural setting added to the calm/peaceful effect it has on the viewer.
Kill la Kill - Was a little something different. Whacky and over the top, both in animation and story, Kill la Kill felt reminiscent of some older animations I grew up with. Definitely an enjoyable watch.
Valvrave the Liberator 2 - Superior of the two seasons, this sequel brings even more nicely animated mecha skirmishes and some actual progress the plot.
Yozakura Quartet ~Hana no Uta~ - Had some likable main characters and cool powers.
BlazBlue: Alter Memory - Despite being inferior to the game, it was nice to see the story animated. Cleared up a few things I was missing from the story.
Tail On! MAL: Katsurararagi
So many ballots. This gon' be good.
Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful?
Did he just walk up...slowly...and ban me?
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - Probably the best anime in Winter group. I like the way how Mamare Touno parodied several sociopolitical revolutions in medieval Europe.
Problem Children are Coming from Another World, aren't they? - Fairly decent anime with references and name drops from obscure myth and legends.
Suisei no Gargantia - One of the few rare gems of 2013.
My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU - We need more dialogue driven anime like this one.
Hataraku Maou-sama! - Hilarity happens when you displaced a Hero, a Demon King, Demon King's minions to world where they are just figment of imagination and forced them to work and act like normal people.
Space Battleship Yamato 2199 - Improved version of the original Uchuu Senkan Yamato. You can tell that this version of Uchuu Senkan Yamato has a very high production value.
Silver Spoon - One of the few good anime for a change of pace.
No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular - One of few cringe anime that either it'll make you pity or laugh at the MC.
Log Horizon - Another work of Mamare Touno. This anime focuses more on dialogues and world building that is so interesting that you can't wait for the next episode.
Outbreak Company - Interesting anime with interesting theme. If you look past through those moe characters and the beautiful scenery porn, you'll see that it is a parody of Japan and America's cultural invasion which eventually leads the control of foreign economy via trade restrictions.
That's it for me, There are some anime that I love to add but I find them too either inept or lacking in some areas to fit my standard
I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
Really hoping at lease Kyoukai no Kanata makes the cut.
Well, sending in my picks soon.
Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful?
The 15th is so far away. I hope some of my favs make it.
My Inner Voice is a British Librarian.
Hyoubu Kyousuke- I love anti-heroes. Especially ones as overpowered as Hyoubu.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha- "Came for the tits, got economics" is literally the best way to describe this show.
Nekomonogatari- I love shaft. I love monogatari. Shinobu was super badass in this.
Oreshura- Cute girls making JoJo references? Fuck yes.
Attack on Titan- This has a good chance of winning this and for good reason. Awesome show.
Date A Live- Dumb concept, but a fun show with some pretty good action. I'll definitely be watching season 2 when it starts next week.
Hataraku Maou-sama- I'd say this was the second funniest show of the year.
Henneko- Cute romantic-ish comedy. That plot twist at the end though. Whoa.
Oreimo- I enjoyed this show way more than I should have. Though, I will admit I'm still mad about the ending.
Suisei no Gargantia- I've never liked mechas, but I freaking love this show. Chamber is just so awesome.
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S- Seeing the Sisters arc from Mikoto's point of view was awesome. I hope they make index season 3 and Railgun season 3.
Monogatari Second Season- Easily the best in the Monogatari series.
Gatchaman Crowds- Worth watching for the soundtrack and colors alone. Pretty awesome show that seems to have gone unnoticed by a lot of people.
WATAMOTE- This is the kind of show that if someone walked in, you'd switch to porn because it'd be easier to explain. The show is so awkward and made me cringe a whole lot, but it's also hilarious. This was the best comedy last year.
Servant x Service- I just really enjoyed that this didn't take place in high school.
Ace of the Diamond- Awesome characters, great comedy, and I REALLY love the art style. I love how long this is too. (Seems like it'll have 50 episodes)
Arpeggio of Blue Steel- The CGI looked weird at times, but for the most part it was good. This also had one of the best OP songs last year.
Golden Time- I love a happy ending.
Kuroko's Basketball S2- This season was even better than the last. This continues to be hype and I can't wait for season 3
Beyond the Boundary- Kyo-Ani does some really awesome work. I loved everything about this show (excluding the "Shocking Pink" episode)
Log Horizon- Thought this was gonna be an SAO ripoff, but it actually turned into its own thing. In terms of animation and action, SAO's got this best beat by a long shot. But this has an actual good story and awesome characters. Plus, season 2 was already announced for this year. It'll have to compete against SAO 2 so that should be interesting.
Magi: Kingdom of Magic- I feel like I would've enjoyed this way more if I hadn't started reading the manga after I finished season 1. But I still feel like A-1 isn't putting their best effort into this series which is unfortunate because this could be huge.
Non Non Biyori- A really laid back slice of life show. Renge is so freaking adorable.
Zettai Karen Children: THE UNLIMITED - It had great action.
Cuticle Detective Inaba - Don Valentino is too funny.
Mushibugyo - Samurai vs Giant Insects.
Attack on Titan - Great action and animation.
The Devil is a Part Timer! - Very funny and great characters.
Yondemasuyo, Azazel-san. Z - Very funny.
Servant x Service - Cool slice of life
Silver Spoon - Learned a lot while staying entertained
Blood Lad - Loved the cast
Beyond the Boundary - The story was interesting
Yowamushi Pedal. A lot better than I expected.
Kuroko's Basketball - Awesome animation and new characters
Hajime no Ippo - Fight were heart-pounding
Ace of Diamond - Enjoyed it a lot, for a Baseball anime.
Magi - Loved the story. New characters were cool too.
Chihayafuru 2 - It's an anime about KARUTA that manages to be better than 90% of the other stuff I watch, that's pretty impressive
Love Live - The only idol anime and group I actually enjoy
The Unlimited Hyoubu Kyousuke - Decided to marathon this one day when I was bored, turned out to be a very entertaining day
Hataraku Maou-sama! - Funny and entertaining
My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU - Relatable protagonist because of his somewhat cynical attitude and views, not because he isn't popular
Monogatari Series Second Season - Just keeps getting better and better, probably my favorite of the year
Love Lab - Definitely the funniest anime of the year for me
Silver Spoon - Nice to watch Hachiken grow
Eccentric Family - Loved the characters and I enjoyed watching them interact
No Matter How I Look At It, It's Your Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular - One of those anime that really wasn't that good but I enjoyed for some reason (probably because of the opening), I'm still rooting for Tomoko
Kill la Kill - A fast-paced, insanely enjoyable anime that leaves all these other shows in the dust as far as soundtracks go
Kyoukai no Kanata - Beautifully animated and very solid
Kyousogiga - The animation lured me in and the characters finished me off
Kuroko no Basuke 2 - Kuroko and his crew returned and they did not disappoint
"The hardest part of ending is starting again" - LP
